Il n\u2019en connait pas la raison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lui qui n\u2019\u00e9tait que <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#f17e42\" class=\"has-inline-color\">savoir <\/mark><\/strong>et <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#f7a901\" class=\"has-inline-color\">connaissance<\/mark><\/strong>, apprend \u00e0 \u00eatre <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#f30505\" class=\"has-inline-color\">vivant <\/mark><\/strong>en \u00e9tant cheval. Il d\u00e9couvre la vie par ses sens. Il apprend \u00e0 profiter des choses simples\u00a0: la beaut\u00e9 d\u2019un lever de soleil, la fra\u00eecheur de la rivi\u00e8re, la puissance du galop dans la plaine. \u2026 Il trouve aussi l\u2019amiti\u00e9 aupr\u00e8s d\u2019un soldat catholique qui aurait d\u00fb \u00eatre son ennemi. C\u2019est une amiti\u00e9 qui grandit au-del\u00e0 des diff\u00e9rences, entre un juif et un catholique, un savant et un soldat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mais, en traversant l\u2019Espagne ensemble, ils d\u00e9couvrent tous les deux la mis\u00e8re et les malheurs des hommes et des chevaux de leur \u00e9poque. Ils rencontrent la <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#f95005\" class=\"has-inline-color\">peur <\/mark><\/strong>et la <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#ee0707\" class=\"has-inline-color\">mort <\/mark><\/strong>qui r\u00f4dent partout autour des vivants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>La peur prend la forme de d\u00e9mons rouges au regard noir. La mort se d\u00e9couvre \u00e0 eux sous les traits d\u2019une femme v\u00eatue de noire, belle et envo\u00fbtante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pour sauver son ami, le cavalier, Maskil apprend \u00e0 faire reculer la mort et la fascination qu\u2019elle exerce sur les hommes, en lui opposant la joie de vivre.
